DevOps Engineer

Cartera is looking for an innovative solution architect to develop and implement systems 
architecture that will meet business needs. The solution architect’s responsibilities include 
gathering requirements and functional specifications, assessing the current software systems in 
place in order to identify areas in need of improvement and overseeing development teams. 
You should also be able to regularly update the company on any developments in systems 
architecture projects. 

Candidates for DevOps Engineer should possess the skills of software engineering and utilize
those skills to solve problems in infrastructure and operations. An automation mindset is key
and an eye for building reliable, scalable, and resilient solutions. The individual should be
resourceful, independent, able to problem-solve and engineer clever solutions to problems. S/he
should maintain an awareness of current technologies and a thirst to learn and experiment. An
awareness of DevOps principles and a desire to champion best practices are vital.

- Responsibilities

• Design and maintain cloud infrastructure that is secure, scalable, and highly available on
AWS
• Work collaboratively with software developers to define infrastructure and deployment
requirements
• Provision, configure and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure defined as code
• Ensure configuration and compliance with configuration management tools
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux based systems and other AWS assets such as
Postgres and MySQL Databases
• Support containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, other
technologies
• Troubleshoot problems across a wide array of services and functional areas
• Maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of AWS
infrastructure and systems
• Perform infrastructure cost analysis and optimization
• Participate in production software deployments working closely with other members of
the production support group to ensure the proper transition of system changes into the
production environments
• Collaboration with all departments around performance testing
• Mock disaster recovery assessments with all operations departments

-  Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science related discipline required
• At least 3-5 years of experience building and maintaining AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2,
Security Groups, IAM, ECS, EKS, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, Lambda, S3)
• Strong understanding of how to secure AWS environments and meet compliance
requirements
• Expertise using Chef for configuration management
• Solid foundation of networking and Linux administration
• Experience supporting Java applications on Tomcat
• Experience with Docker, GitHub, Kubernetes, ELK and deploying applications on AWS
• Ability to learn/use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools
• Strong bias for action and ownership
